Carplay installation tutorial BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45
We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a BMW Active Tourer F45.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to connect it if you use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE SCREEN
We start by removing the cover under the post. You have to put a spatula or a thin object and to make lever on it.
Remove it.
There are now 2 Torx T20 screws to remove.
Remove it.
Now we're in the process of removing the entire plastic cross member.
It is very solid and well fixed, you can leverage it without any worries.
Last part before the connections, there are 4 screws to remove: 2 that fix the screen, and 2 that fix the station. Remove them.
STEP 2: CONNECTION
Remove the LVDS (video) plug from its connector.
This purple plug goes into the LVDS IN part module.
Then connect the turquoise LVDS OUT connector of the KIT in place of the original one.
And finally, simply unplug the power plug (called QUADLOCK) and plug in the KIT's power plug instead. It's a simple BY-PASS.
STEP 3: TEST
Press the MENU button for 3 seconds on your BMW F45 iDRIVE wheel.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Screen.
We chose Apple Carplay which will launch by default (without the previous menu), to choose Android Auto for example, go to the BMW application.

If you don't have an original camera, you can also install one. The result is just perfect, it is a handle camera, like the original one, find it HERE.
