Carplay installation tutorial for Mercedes X Class
Here we will see in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a Mercedes X Class.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 60 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to connect it if you use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: REMOVAL OF THE DASHBOARD
The video allows you to view the complete disassembly for access to the car radio.
STEP 2: REMOVAL OF THE CAR RADIO
Remove the 2 screws
Identify the socket marked "DISP" (for DISPLAY).
Remove the power connector (called Quadlock) and the blue "DISP" plug.
STEP 3: CONNECTION
Connect the 2 video cables (LCD-LVDS).
Connect the original "DISP" plug to the LCD_OUT socket.
Connect the pink LVDS cable (LCD_IN) to the blue connector.
Remove the original power plug (Quadlock).
Connect the Quadlock with the supplied By-Pass.
Insert the Quadlock plug of the kit.
Connect the Wifi antenna.
If you do not have a JACK (AUX) socket in your Mercedes X Class, a USB to AUX adapter is provided.
Plug the adapter into one of the USB sockets (here, it is plugged into USB number 2).
Connect the supplied jack cable to the adapter.
Then connect the other side of the jack cable to the AUDIO_OUT female connector.
Select the USB socket to which you have connected the adapter (here - USB number 2 ==> Media Interface 2).
STEP 4: TEST
Press the RETURN button on your pad for 3 seconds.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Screen.
We have chosen Apple Carplay which will launch by default, to choose Android Auto for example, click on the MERCEDES application and choose ANDROID AUTO.
