Carplay installation tutorial on Audi RS3
We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on an Audi RS3, similar to an S3 or an A3, the important thing is that it is an 8V.
Hardware required: a ratchet with 8 bits and 2 Audi car radio extraction keys.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
This includes the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the sound cable, and a USB cable (do not plug it in if using the wireless device).
STEP 1: REMOVING THE GLOVE BOX
Insert the 2 extraction keys.
Pull the station out.
Remove the cover with a spatula.
One screw to be removed.
3 screws up.
2 screws at the bottom.
These are size 8 torx screws.
Take out the glove box.
STEP 2: CONNECTIONS
Unplug the large power connector (called Quadlock) and the gray-colored video jack.
Connect the cables provided in the kit like this.
Now connect the by-pass to the original station.
The gray video (LVDS) jack of the car radio to be inserted into the LVDS_OUT cable.
The pink colored plug of the kit (LVDS_IN) is to be plugged here.
STEP 3: ENJOY
You can then choose between Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Mirror Link or your original mmi Audi screen. We have selected Apple Carplay by long pressing (2-3 seconds) on the BACK key.
