Carplay installation tutorial on BMW 4 series with NBT system
We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a BMW 4 series with NBT system.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to plug it if you use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE CAR RADIO
Remove the cover attached to the ventilation with a flat object, it is very solid, no risk of breaking!
It's all in one piece.
Now, it is necessary to unscrew the air conditioning control which "hides" the car radio: 4 Torx T20 screws.
You can now remove the air conditioning panel.
Pull out the connector.
2 Torx T20 screws hold the car radio.
Simply pull it out towards you.
STEP 2 : DISMANTLING THE SCREEN
The screen is maintained by 2 Torx screws (red circles).
To remove the screen, it is very simple, pull it up.
Remove the LVDS (video) cable from the pink connector.
Connect the turquoise LVDS plug instead of the original one.
STEP 3: CONNECTIONS
All connections are made to these 2 sockets.
Take the optical fiber (double green cables) out of the quadlock (power socket of the station).
LVDS 2 corresponds to the plug you unplugged from your monitor.
Reconnect the whole set, including the fiber optic that we came reconnected in the station to keep all the original features.
As a reminder, some vehicles do not have fiber optics, so there, the question does not even arise.
STEP 4: TEST
Press the BACK button for 3 seconds on your iDRIVE wheel.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Link.
Here, we have chosen Apple Carplay on the BMW 4 series.
