Carplay installation tutorial on BMW F21 with NBT system
We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a BMW 1 Series Coupe F21 with NBT system.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to connect it if you use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE CAR RADIO
Simply remove the ventilation grid on the sides, no screws.
Then, it is necessary to unscrew the air conditioning control which "hides" the car radio: 2 Torx screws.
Now remove the fan control (easily).
Once the facade of air conditioning removed, we can finally see the car radio BMW maintained by 2 screws torx T20.
You can now remove the car radio from its housing.
STEP 2 : DISASSEMBLING THE SCREEN
The screen is maintained by 2 Torx screws (red arrows).
To remove the screen, it is very simple, pull it up.
Finally, pull the LVDS cable (video cable) out of the purple connector.
STEP 3: CONNECTION
Then connect the LVDS cable to the display and to the module as follows.
Connect the purple plug of the display here (LVDS 2 connector).
Remove the power plug from the car radio, also called QUADLOCK.
Take the fiber optic cable (if you have it) out of your original socket, and put it back into the power socket (the bypass) of Carplay.
and finally connect the power bypass of the car radio to finally close the circuit.
STEP 4: TEST
Press the BACK button for 3 seconds on your iDRIVE wheel.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Link.
