Carplay installation tutorial on BMW F31 NBT
We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a BMW F31.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to connect it if we use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE CAR RADIO
Pull the stick towards you, it's solid so there is no risk of breaking!
Then, it is necessary to unscrew the air conditioning control which "hides" the car radio.
Simple T20 torx screws to remove.
Remove the cover on the underside of the air conditioning control to see the 2 remaining screws. Removes easily.
Once the front of the air conditioning removed, we can finally see the car radio maintained by 4 screws torx T20.
STEP 2: DISASSEMBLE THE SCREEN
The screen is maintained by 2 Torx screws (red arrows). To remove the screen, it is very simple, pull it up.
STEP 3: CONNECTION
Then connect the LVDS cable to the display and to the module as follows.
Connect the purple plug of the display here (LVDS 2 connector).
Remove the power plug from the car radio, also called QUADLOCK.
Take the fiber optic cable (if you have it) out of your original socket, and put it back into the power socket (the bypass) of Carplay.
and finally connect the power bypass of the car radio to finally close the circuit.
STEP 4: TEST
Press the MENU button for 3 seconds on your BMW F31 iDRIVE wheel.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Screen.
We have chosen Apple Carplay which will launch by default (without the previous menu), to choose Android Auto for example, go to the BMW application.
