Tutorial: Carplay Installation in a BMW 5 Series E60
Here we will see how to install a Carplay in a BMW E60.
In fact, the only difficulty (or not) will be to get to the station, here it is a CCC.
The hardware was chosen accordingly: Carplay for BMW with CCC.
WHAT'S A CCC?
A CCC of BMW, it is a GPS car radio from BMW with a small or a large screen which is controlled with the joystick, the famous Idrive.
It is presented in this form:
The menu is divided into 5 separate parts :
Climate: ventilation, air conditioning etc...
Communication: bluetooth
Navigation: GPS (PS: not all CCC radios have GPS, yes, unfortunately it exists)
Entertainment: it's the Media/Sources part
i: Information, for settings and vehicle status
This is the system that precedes the younger CIC system.
Here is the removal procedure to access the CCC:
Duration: 20-30 minutes
Necessary material: a spatula (supplied in our pack) and a Phillips screwdriver.
We start by removing the ventilation system, first on the right.
Then left.
Remove the ventilation connector.
Here's the result when you remove the vent.
2 screws to remove.
The CCC station is visible.
Pulling the post out - very easy, no force necessary.
Protect the gearshift lever, especially if it's an automatic transmission, because it always returns to the starting position, so there's a risk that the leather will be covered.
1 - Current connector
2 - video capture (LVDS)
Here it is, the only "difficulty" is in the dismantling, for the connection, it is enough to use the 2 sockets mentioned 1 and 2.
We remind here the Carplay module to add to benefit from Apple Carplay on this BMW: Carplay for BMW with CCC.
