Volkswagen ID4 with Apple Carplay
Happy German owner of VW ID4 electric city car and Apple Iphone owner, you absolutely want to know how to use Carplay in your car, let's find out how!
CONNECT YOUR IPHONE TO THE ID4 USB PORT
Use an Apple-approved Lightning to USB cable to connect your iPhone to the VW ID4's USB port. All in just 3 steps!
- When prompted, press "Authorize" on your iPhone. This enables you to use CarPlay via ID4 when the phone is locked.
- A prompt appears on the ID4 touchscreen: "Do you want to connect Apple CarPlay?". Click on Connect.
- After a few moments, CarPlay starts automatically on the infotainment system screen.
If CarPlay on the ID.4 does not start automatically after plugging in the USB cable, tap the Apple CarPlay icon on the home screen or in the list of available applications.
Since you don't know which USB port on your ID.4 version supports CarPlay, please consult your vehicle's owner's manual. You can also try connecting the cables to all the USB ports on the dashboard and center console at the same time.
CARPLAY NOT AVAILABLE IN MY VW ID.4
If Apple CarPlay on the ID.4 does not start when the USB cable is plugged in, and the CarPlay icon does not appear in the infotainment system's list of applications, there are several possible causes:
CarPlay may be disabled on your iPhone, go to Settings> Screen Time> Content and Privacy Restrictions> Allowed Applications and enable CarPlay and Siri.
There's a problem with the Lightning-to-USB cable you're using. Try another cable, preferably an original Apple cable.
The USB port to which the ID.4 is connected does not support CarPlay. Try another USB port.
A software problem is causing problems with CarPlay. Factory reset of the ID.4's infotainment system, but this last solution is the least likely.
Now that you want to install Carplay in ID4 without an USB cable and enjoy a wireless connection, simply plug our wireless adapter into the USB port dedicated to Carplay, and Apple Carplay is finally wireless!
