Carplay installation tutorial for Mercedes E Class

We will see here in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a Mercedes E-Class.

Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver and a thin flat screwdriver.

Installation time: 30-40 minutes

Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to plug it in if you use the device wirelessly).

STEP 1: REMOVING THE CAR RADIO

The removal of the car radio is done by first taking out the ventilation grilles.

Push a flat screwdriver thin enough to spread the tabs. There is one on the right and one on the left.

Now you have to take the crossbar out of the dashboard.

Also pull the second tab.

Once the crossbar removed, now we can have access to the car radio, it is maintained by 2 torx screws

The torx screws are hard to remove towards the end because there is threadlocker. This is Mercedes ;)

Once the screws are removed, you can now gently pull the station towards you.

Don't forget to unplug the connector on the side of the station.

STEP 2: CONNECTION

Unplug the large power jack (Quadlock) and the gray video jack (LVDS).

Plug the bypass into the original quadlock slot.

Plug the original grey LVDS plug into the grey female socket provided (LVDS OUT) and plug the pink socket (LVDS IN) into it instead.

Same principle for the power connector: plug it into the supplied bypass cable.

STEP 3: TEST

Press the RETURN button on your pad for 3 seconds.

The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Screen.

We have chosen Apple Carplay which will launch by default (without the previous menu), to choose Android Auto for example, go to the MERCEDES application.
