Waze has just started rolling out its long-awaited Conversational Reporting feature to real users after months of testing. This upgrade is designed to make hazard and traffic reporting easier, smarter, and more natural—without needing to memorize exact commands.

What Is Conversational Reporting?

Until now, Waze has allowed users to report hazards or traffic with simple voice commands. The new Conversational Reporting feature takes this further by letting you speak naturally. Instead of saying a precise phrase, you can just describe the situation, and Waze will figure it out.

For example:

  • Old way: “Report hazard ahead.”

  • New way: “There’s a car stopped on the shoulder just before the exit.”

If Waze needs clarification, it will ask follow-up questions to understand your report.

How It Works

You’ll find the option under:
Settings → Voice and Sound → Talk to report.

When enabled, Waze shows an animated button letting you know it’s listening. After submitting a report, you’ll see a confirmation message.

The feature is still being polished, though. Some users have noticed:

  • Delays with the “Listening” prompt staying on screen too long.

  • Music playback not resuming automatically after a report.

Does It Work on CarPlay?

Here’s where things get tricky. At the moment, Conversational Reporting doesn’t seem to work on CarPlay. While the feature is available on mobile, users running Waze via CarPlay still only see the manual reporting buttons.

That means if you’re using Waze on CarPlay, you’ll need to keep reporting hazards the old-fashioned way for now. Hopefully, Google will expand full support in a future update, especially since safer, hands-free interaction is a big selling point of CarPlay.

Rollout and Availability

The update is being released gradually worldwide. Not everyone has it yet, but more users are starting to see it on their devices. Waze hasn’t confirmed a global rollout date, but early adoption shows the company is moving fast.

Final Thoughts for CarPlay Drivers

Conversational Reporting is a promising step toward smarter, safer navigation. But for now, CarPlay users will need to wait until the feature is fully integrated into Apple’s in-car system.
