CarPlay activation tutorial on BMW i3

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to activate Apple CarPlay on a BMW i3. After verifying the chassis number, we discovered that the vehicle has the pre-equipment for Apple CarPlay. To take advantage of it, you simply need to activate the feature. Additionally, we noted that the car didn't have a Wi-Fi antenna, which is necessary for wireless Apple CarPlay in BMWs since 2016. Therefore, you will need to install a Wi-Fi antenna. However, some BMW vehicles already come with the original Wi-Fi antenna, and for those, no installation is required.

Required tools: Our activation kit

Installation time: 5-10 minutes

Inventory: a BMW cable, an USB stick with the activation program and the activation key specific to the chassis number.

STEP 1: INSTALLATION OF THE WIFI ANTENNA BMW I3

Open the doors of your BMW i3.

The car radio is under the back seat of your BMW i3.

We can finally see your BMW EVO. Locate the blue connector of the Wi-Fi antenna. 

Plug in the Wi-Fi antenna and put the seat back, it's installed.

STEP 2: ACTIVATE APPLE CARPLAY ON BMW I3

Connect the supplied cable to the OBD socket on your BMW.

Simply launch the program on the USB key and insert the code. Press START and wait for 2 minutes. Once the process is finished, remove your plug, Apple CarPlay is activated.

STEP 3 : ENJOY

You can now test CarPlay by reconnecting in the COMMUNICATION area.
