How to install Apple CarPlay on Audi Q5 SQ5

We will see here in photos how to install Apple CarPlay on a Audi Q5 SQ5. (model year: from 2009 with mmi)

Required tools: a ratchet with tip 8 and 2 Audi car radio extraction keys.

Installation time: 30-40 minutes

Inventory: CarPlay module and wiring.
There are therefore the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS cables (video), the power cable, the sound cable, and a USB cable (do not connect it if you use the device wireless).

Step 1 : Removing the glovebox

Gently open the compartment with a spatula (which we provide)

You have to unscrew the first screw

then 3 screws at the top

and 2 screws at the bottom

Step 2 : Removing the mmi radio

Step 3 : Connections

We see the gateway in the photo, we just plug into it. So you have to disconnect the gateway and plug in our power plug and reconnect the gateway with the socket so as to make a by-pass.

The power is on, we now go to the front, the car radio.

it is necessary to connect the wifi antenna as well as the LVDS sockets (pink and gray), it is for the video, the display of the CarPlay.

you have to connect the sound thanks to the also a by-pass, as we had done with the gateway previously

Make a splice in the green cable (next to the blue-yellow)

Connect the blue MMI cable (this is so that you can use the MMI buttons when you navigate in the CarPlay)

Install a mic if you want to use Siri

Fix the CarPlay with a rilsan so that it does not move while driving  

Reassemble the radio and the glove box and enjoy the CarPlay by pressing your NAVI button.

Step 4 : Enjoy
