Carplay in my Mercedes GT

Mercedes Benz, one of the most renowned luxury car brands, has just recently gained popularity with its Apple CarPlay compatible option. APPLE CARPLAY FOR THE MERCEDES: WHAT IS IT FOR?

Since it's very risky, even inappropriate, to make a phone call or send a message while driving, not to mention that it's a car you're driving. Apple Carplay aims to be one of the best workarounds. In fact, the application allows you to safely use your iPhone while you're busy driving.

The primary purpose of this tool is to allow you to use certain iPhone functions without being distracted while driving your Mercedes. This technology completely revolutionizes the interaction of the driver with his phone by transferring the interface of the device to the car's onboard screen.

This way, you can use features like GPS, music or even exchange messages through Siri's voice input. Although Carplay works with Apple's original applications, other third-party features can be used. These include:

• iHeart Radio.
• Spotify
• Pandora
• Stitcher

So you can access the vehicle's original menu as you wish. So, you'll have to leave Apple Carplay to change the climate options, control the radio and change the driving mode.

WHAT MERCEDES GT MODELS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH CARPLAY IOS

First of all, Apple CarPlay was released in 2016 so there are only certain vehicles that have the option as of 2016. Mercedes GT owners who want to have this application will therefore have to install an Apple CarPlay module compatible of course also with Android Auto and Mirror Link.

Mercedes GT AMG from September 2015 are compatible with the NTG5 system so it's quite possible to add the Carplay option afterwards, to upgrade the vehicle.

Apart from the right car model, it is also important to have at least an iPhone 5 before you can enjoy this application. Moreover, only iOS7 and more recent are able to run Carplay.

HOW TO CONNECT YOUR IPHONE TO THE MERCEDES GT CARPLAY?

To connect your smartphone to Mercedes CarPlay, simply plug your device into the car's USB port. Once plugged in, the car will detect the connection and the CarPlay icon will appear.

At this point, all the Apple CarPlay compatible apps will come on. You will then have the choice to accept the automatic start of the phone or not. This option is particularly useful, as it remembers your phone and settings when you plug in.

You can also use the Bluetooth function of your Mercedes, if it has one. The principle is even simpler. Put your vehicle in wireless or Bluetooth pairing mode. Press the "back" arrow on your joystick in the central control. Next, go to your iPhone and choose «settings», then go to «general». Choose CarPlay, Available Cars, then your Mercedes.
