Carplay installation tutorial on BMW F13 with NBT system
Here we will see in pictures how to install Apple Carplay on a 2015 BMW 6 series coupe F13 with NBT system.
Required equipment: a T20 torx screwdriver.
Installation time: 30-40 minutes
Inventory: Carplay module and wiring.
So we count the module, a wifi antenna, 2 LVDS (video) cables, the power cable, the auxiliary cable, and a USB cable (no need to plug it in if we use the device wirelessly).
STEP 1: DISASSEMBLE THE CAR RADIO
Remove the cover attached to the vent with a flat object, it's very solid, no risk of breaking! It is a single piece.
Now, it is necessary to unscrew the air conditioning control which "hides" the car radio: 2 Torx T20 screws.
You can now remove the air conditioning panel with its connectors.
The station is maintained by 4 Torx T20 screws.
STEP 2: DISASSEMBLE THE SCREEN
The screen is maintained by 2 Torx screws (red circles).
To remove the screen, it's very simple, pull it up.
Pull the LVDS (video) cable out of the purple connector.
STEP 3: CONNECTION
Connect the purple plug of the display here (LVDS 2 connector).
Remove the power plug from the car radio, the pink plug (video) is also to be removed (to be inserted in LVDS 2).
Remove the fiber from the original power outlet if you have one.
Then put it back into the power socket (the bypass) of Carplay.
and finally connect the power bypass of the car radio.
STEP 4: TEST
Press and hold the BACK or MENU button for 3 seconds on your iDRIVE wheel.
The menu will appear, select what you want to use: Apple Carplay, Android Auto or Mirror Link.
Here, we have chosen Apple Carplay on the BMW 6 series coupe F13.
